Website Security

Site members may select "Sign me in automatically" on the logon page to have their member account automatically recalled whenever they return to the site. A permanent cookie is placed on the users computer to recall the account.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small lines of code stored on the user's computer to pass information between pages. Permanent cookies may be used to pass information between site visits. Cookies allow the user to be identified when logging on to password protected portions of a site.

How are cookies used within the Fitability site?

Cookies allow us to maintain a record of who is logged in. Site areas such as the "About Us" section may be viewed without cookies actived. Cookies are required to view password protected portions of the site.

What information is stored in the cookie?

Typically only a code number used to recall their user privileges. In a few cases cookies are used to pass variables between pages during the online interview. A cookie is used on the home page to cycle through a variety of pictures.

Are temporary or permanent cookie used?

Prior to becoming members we use permanent cookies to associate requests with registration material. After becoming a member we default to a temporary cookies to allow users to log off each time. This is especially important in situations where others are using the member's computer.

What is the advantage of a permanent cookie?

A permanent cookie is saved so it is not necessary to log on with each visit. Members may check a box on the following page when logging on to make the cookie permanent:

http://www.fitability.com/logon/logon.asp

What if I forget to logoff on another computer?

Whenever a member uses a different browser or computer, their token number is changed in the database. This will deactive permanent cookies saved previously on other computers.

For example, if a member accidentally logs in permanently on a computer at the airport, this logon will be automatically deactivated the next time the member logs on at another computer.

What naming convention do we use for the cookie file?

It will appear at "fitability" or "www.fitability" preceded by the username the person uses on their local computer. Explorer cookie files may be deleted by going to "C:Documents and Settings." Select the desired user account. Select "cookies." This may differ for different versions of Windows.
